Our New House!

We just got a house.

We started talking about it at the end of summer, just lightly planning. We got serious in November, and started interviewing a few real estate agents. In the end we picked some that were referred by Erika, who bought a house in the last couple of years. Check out our review of James and Jennifer. We were pretty happy.

We visited the place on December 22nd, which for you right-brain artistic types is the three days before Christmas. We are convinced we only had our offer accepted because the previous owner listed it then. It was on the market for 5 days before we signed the mutual acceptance and there were three other bidders. At some point I’ll write a post about the whole process, I think it might be helpful.

Anyway, we’re thrilled with the new place. Two weeks after we moved in, we hosted a huge housewarming party – 60 people came! – thanks for your warm hearts. We had fun.

We are going to rent our basement out to some cool people that we’ll probably find on the internet. If you’re reading this and you have a friend who might want to rent a 2 bedroom basement apartment near Green Lake that is mostly above ground, let us know.

Update! I wrote a 2,400 word guide to buying a house. It is pretty helpful.
