Helsinki is Beautiful, Here’s the Proof

Tom, Katy and I passed through Helsinki on the way from St. Petersburg to Tallinn on August 5th. We were there for about 26 hours, and made the most of it. We ate reindeer meat (I’m on Santa’s naughty list for that, probably) and caught a sweet boat tour around the harbor. Tom made the most of it by taking a mid-afternoon nap while Katy and I explored the island fortress of Suomenlinna. All in all, a welcome dash of sunshine on our trip, complete with people we could communicate with in English. That was a bonus I didn’t realize I’d appreciate.

This is the Lutheran Cathedral in the center of town.

The Sibelius Monument, built to honor Jean Sibelius, a super famous composer who happens to be a Finn.
